Prompt Challenge

Hello Friends! It’s that time again. I don’t have much to say other than I really hope that you like this story. It was another one to write and I am loving this prompt this month. I didn’t think I would like it, but the more I think about it the more stories come to mind. This one was fun to write. Enjoy!

The room was dark and damp, my hands were tied behind my back. I pulled at the restraints, feeling the blood from my wrist drip down my hands. I couldn’t cry, I had already cried. My throat was dry and raw from screaming. I could feel that my eyes were puffy and my head throbbed from crying and screaming. My feet were free, but I had twisted my ankle when I ran the first time. It might even be broken.

I could feel the anger rising in my chest. I couldn’t believe I had found myself in this situation. I should have never trusted him. The bastard had played a beautiful game, making me believe he loved me and wanted to be with me. I should have listened to the warnings about online dating sites. I was just so lonely and was so determined to make a connection that I turned to the internet. I had met so many wonderful friends through the internet; I thought maybe I could find love too.

But meeting friends was different from finding love. I fell hard and fast for the guy with the pretty words. He also had a pretty face that seemed almost too true to be real. I couldn’t understand why a guy as kind and handsome as him could have any interest in her. I should have listened to my instincts, but as soon as I met him in person I melted into the palm of his hand.

There were a few dates, a cute little romance that led me to my current position. Except, it wasn’t the guy I met online that captured me. He had run at the first sign of danger. He had run…I still couldn’t wrap her mind around it. He had been so muscular and tall. I had felt so comfortable in his arms, so safe. And when trouble walked around the corner, he ran. He left me to whatever fate had found me.

I thumped hmy head against the wall behind me and closed my eyes. I took a deep breath to calm my rage and tears. Surely the boy who ran had at least called the cops. Someone had to know that I had been kidnapped by now. It had been at least a day.

My eyes snapped open when the door creaked. I squinted my eyes at the light that seeped in. The door clicked shut behind the person that had walked in and I could hear the man clear his throat. “I’m sorry, Natalie.” He said, shocking me. He knew my name.

“Who are you?” I asked him.

“My name is Nick.” He said, sitting in front of me on the floor, curling his legs up in front of him. “We were not after you.” He scratched his head. “In fact, we were going to let you go once we had your boyfriend, but he ran. You didn’t even try to run.” He tilted his head to the side and stared at her. “Why didn’t you run?”

“Slow reflexes?” I said, shrugging my shoulders.

“You didn’t even show signs of fear.” He tilted his head to the other side. I almost laughed because the man reminded me of my childhood pet. “You cried and screamed, but it wasn’t from fear. You were just angry.”

“That punk  ran when there was trouble.” I said “He didn’t even look to see if I was behind him. Didn’t grab my hand. Nothing. He just ran.” I shook my head and sighed. “Dating is hard.”

Nick laughed and shook his head. “I am still sorry, I didn’t want this for such a pretty woman. There is so little beauty left in the world, the last thing I want to do is damage that beauty.”

“What do you plan to do with me?” I ask. I was going to kill the boy who had run. The longer I sat in the dirty floor, the angrier I got. “I’m hungry.” I said. Nick stared at me, like he was trying to figure me out. His gaze lingered too long and my hunger was too strong. I could see his soul and it was calling my name. I licked my lips and smiled.

“What are you?” He asked, trying to back away, but it was too late. He fought the invisible restraints keeping him where he was. I had planned on feeding on the boy I met on the internet, but these people had interrupted. I was hungry and angry and those two did not work well with a soul sucker like me.

“I am a child of Ammit.” I said, watching Nick’s reaction. He didn’t react, just stared at me confused. “The Egyptian soul-eater.” I said with a huff. “You humans really should believe in some myths.” The man was too afraid to move now, not that he could. I twisted my wrist and released myself. “My mother was a succubus.” I smiled as Nick’s eyes widened. At least he knew something. I showed him my free hands and he watched as the cuts on my wrist healed.

“What are you going to do to me?”

“What do you think?” I asked him. I held up a finger and shook it, tisking at him. “I like my father’s side of the family more than my mothers. I would rather eat a soul than seduce scum like you.” I bruId his cheek. “But I will be nice and let you feel the calming effects of a succubus, while I suck out your soul.” Nick’s eyes watered. He hadn’t been able to close his eyes while I held his gaze. His soul danced around behind his eyes, trying to escape any way other than into my grasp. I smiled as my own soul reached in and grabbed Nick’s soul. I could already feel it, filling me with everything he had done, good or bad. Nick was actually a good guy who had been following the wrong crowd. Given time he would have changed his ways. Too bad he wouldn’t get that chance.

I pulled his soul into me, feeling it cover my body with its warmth. I took a deep breath as the last of his soul became mine. I dropped him to the floor, nothing left of him but a sack of meat. I heard his heart stop and I patted his head. “Thanks for the soul.” I opened the door to the room they had thrown me in. I could hear the other men talking and the clinking clicking sounds of guns. Nick was fun, but my game had only just begun. After I was done with these fools, I would make my way back to internet boy and keep him around for dinner.
