August Prompt Title

Hello Nerds!!

Right now I am on my way to the beach with my family for the last of my birthday week! Yay! Lucky for you I am terribly dedicated to my writing and I wrote something in advance so that I would not miss a short story, or a blog post.

This is probably my favorite short story for this months writing prompt. I love it and I am rather proud of it! So, I hope you like it too!

6-3 Birthday Surprise

I had done it, I had gotten away with it. After months of planning I was able to give myself what I really wanted for my birthday. I had warned him when he dumped me that he would pay for breaking my heart. After all, he dumped me so he could be with her…that girl he met at the beach. It was our anniversary and it was supposed to be special. Silly me thought he was going to get down on one knee and propose. I even found the ring.

I was willing to let it all go, until I saw the same ring, the one meant for me, on her long slender, red nailed finger. It was so perfect against her pale skin and it glittered dangerously in the sun when she ran her fingers through her long blond hair. Fake…everything about her was fake. Her lips were full of Botox, boobs full of silicon, tummy tucks, fake lashes, fake nails, fake blond hair, dentally enhanced and perfectly bleached teeth. I couldn’t see what he saw in her. I bet even her sparkling blue eyes were fake. The amount of make up on her face made me wonder how she was not sweating under the summer sun. But the love of my life fell for this girl and all the lies she told.

To top it all off, it was also my birthday.

One year later and I had decided how I was going to get back at him. I had decided what I was going to do to make myself feel better. I followed them both for months. I knew where they shopped, worked, and their favorite places to eat on Friday nights. They were always so happy, laughing and touching one another. It boiled my blood. He was supposed to be mine, my soul mate. I wouldn’t let her get away with stealing him away and I wouldn’t let him get away with leaving me.

After stalking them I planned it all out. It would be on the night of my birthday. I would wait until they were both home, sitting on their couch watching television. I watched the blond hair fake cuddle up to the man I loved, it reminded me of all the times I had cuddled into him. I missed his warmth and his laugh. We had so much fun together. He was crazy for leaving me.

I waited until they were into the movie they were watching. I snuck into the back door, quiet as a mouse. Tip-toed through the kitchen and slipped into the living room where they sat on the couch, their backs to me. It was dark in the room, except for the light of the television. It was easy to sneak up on them. I took care of him first. I still loved him and I wanted his end to be quick. I slit his throat and watched as he gasped for air. The blond fake looked at him, not understanding what was happening until she felt the blood on her hands. I had his blood on my hands too. It was so warm, like him.

She stood from the couch and lunged for me, I laughed as she tripped over her shoes she had left in front of the couch. I was on top of her before she could get up. I wanted her to suffer, but I didn’t have a lot of time. She clawed at my face, so I broke her fingers, and then broke her wrist. I had to cover her mouth so that her screams would not wake up the neighbors or call their attention to the house. She bit my hand, it only made me angrier. I punched her face and heard her nose crack. She cried out and stopped fighting.

It was then that I got bored and was just ready for it to be over, so I slit her throat too and watched her bleed out onto the carpet. I washed my hands in her blood before taking the ring off her finger, my ring. I got off of her, her body still, silent, fake. I looked to the man I loved, his eyes were wide. My heart crumpled at the pain in them. The last thing he felt was pain. It was his own fault. He should have never treated me the way he did. I kissed his forehead and walked back out of the back door.

I had walked to his home, I lived not too far away. The moon was bright and full and the stars were scattered across the sky. I was happy with my birthday this year. I got everything I wanted.

Finally home, I flipped the switch to turn on the lights, but they didn’t come on. I flicked the switch up and down and few times and huffed. The power was out again. It happens often in this neighborhood. I heard something shuffle in the kitchen and I froze, listening. I called out into the dark, but no one called back. I made my way into the kitchen, headed to the sink to wash the dried blood from my hands.

I tripped over something, or rather someone. Right before I screamed the power came back on. My friends and family jumped from their hiding spot and yelled “Surprise.” I could feel the blood drain from my face. I had no clue they were throwing me a surprise party. They all stood in horror, taking in the blood on my hands and clothes. My best friend knew what had happened. It was written all over her face. I could hear someone on the phone, calling the police.

My best friend grabbed my shoulders and made me face her. “Please tell me this is a joke.” She said. I shook my head and could no longer fight the tears. I had gotten away with it. I had murdered the love of my life. He didn’t even know me. He had never met his stalker.
